Scotland is part of the United Kingdom occupying the northern portion (not quite half) of Britain, the largest of the British Isles, and including many of the smaller islands such as Orkney, Shetland, Mull, and the Hebrides (Skye, Lewis, Tiree, Harris, and dozens of others).
The four largest cities/conurbations are Glasgow, Edinburgh (the capital), Aberdeen, and Dundee. Aberdeen was fourth until offshore oil exploration and harvesting became really important.
The genealogical records have separate systems from those of England.
