Sir Richard Jackson was born before 1571 in England to Anthony Jackson and Margaret Frobisher. He married Ursula Hildyard. He saw service in the Army of King James I (King James VI of Scotland) and for his efforts, was posthumously knighted by the King in 1613. His grandfather, also named Richard Jackson, was from Eske, Yorkshire, was born about 1505, and was married to Ann Todd of Yorkshire, the daughter of Sir Robert Todd, in 1538. (*Another Richard Jackson, from much further south, at Chipping in Essex, was born about the same time, but is apparently unrelated to the Yorkshire Jacksons. The latter was burned at the stake as a Protestant Martyr in about 1555, during the reign of the Catholic Queen Mary of England.) Nothing is known of the ancestry of this 'first' Richard.
