He married Elisabeth Ana Houlton (1833-1894) 1857 in Paddington, Greater London, England, United Kingdom.

Preacher in London. Then in 1876 embarked on "Dunbritton" with Elisabeth and 10 children, arriving 6 Aug 1876 in Wellington, NZ. Lived in various places including Dunedin 1880-85, Wanganui 1887-1904.

By 1975 he had 255 gt-gt-grandchildren, with more to come. Gordon's ancestry included Scottish Kings and Anna Cromwell, sister of Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell.
